A Million Tokens to Swap a Component Library
Linear's biggest post today wasn't a feature at all: an engineer migrated the app from Radix to Base UI using about a million tokens, and the internet wanted to know whether the focus states survived. Also, markdown files can finally be content.
What people were saying
The loudest Linear post of the day came from inside the building but wasn't about issues, cycles, or agents. @emilkowalski mentioned, almost in passing, that he'd migrated Linear from Radix to Base UI, and that it took just over a million tokens. That's it. That's the post. It got 1,800 likes, which tells you something about where frontend Twitter's attention currently lives.
The actual product news was smaller and more useful: @linear shipped the ability to drop .md and .txt files in as content rather than attachments. @karrisaarinen announced it in what can only be described as free verse ("Bring forth your Markdown files"), which is a choice, and it landed.
Elsewhere on the team: @pdotcv walked through building a teaser page from mockup to live in just over a day, with a detour through Figma motion to nail the timing on a glass effect. @talentlyss used the Linear Diffs mobile early-access announcement as a hiring pitch for a mobile designer. And @brendanrc2 crowdsourced ideas ahead of an internal demo day, having apparently already built four demos, which is a very Linear amount of pre-work for asking a question.
Notable anecdotes
The best outside post was @ggsimm discovering that if you assign a ticket to a coworker, the coding-agent automation calls their agent, not yours. He described this as quietly outsourcing compute to colleagues who will never know. No word yet on whether this is a bug or a feature or simply how teams work now.
@pablorfraile wrote the day's most thoughtful thread: he put his agents in Linear so responsibility was legible, then hit the harder question of what each agent is allowed to decide. He asked one to find a supplier; it found one, chose one, and drafted the payment. Capability and authority, he concluded, are not the same field.
@noman_huge posted an unsolicited icon redesign of the UI, @chengyongru announced nanobot support, and @robynxpark praised the hiring page as a window into how the team thinks.
The pushback
Mild and mostly aimed at the ecosystem rather than the product. Under the migration post, several people asked the reasonable question of why, with one noting that hopping between UI toolkits every few years is itself the problem. And in a passing mention, @0xhexaaa06 observed that ChatGPT recommends Notion for project management while Gemini recommends Linear, both confidently, which he framed as a lesson about model disagreement rather than a verdict on either tool.
