Staff Engineer is the worst position. 20% salary bump, 100% expectations bump. t.co/K9B1BBk1zI

they don’t tell you this, but when you become a staff engineer they expect you to perform 1 miracle a year
Company & TeamJokes that staff engineer brings small pay bump and huge expectations.
What people said backOverwhelming agreement, mostly from people disputing the 20%: several replies said they got 10%, or nothing. Recurring themes were staff as scapegoat, managerial expectations without managerial power, and a contingent quietly staying senior on purpose.
  2. Emil Kowalski@emilkowalski

I reached a point where basically of my animations/interactions work is done without touching the code. The workflow looks roughly like this: - Start with /prototype to see a few different variants, tell it to use /animate for the right easing and timing. - Pick the variant you like and iterate on it. This is just asking the agent to correct/change some details. - Run a /prep-for-prod skill on it. This contains perf, a11y, and mobile checks. Since almost every “taste” decision related to animation has a logical reason, this can get you pretty far even when you don’t know much about motion.

Agents & AIDesign & CraftSays his animation and interaction work now happens entirely through agent skills, not code.
What people said backMostly agreement, with people asking where to get the prep-for-prod skill and what model he uses. One friendly holdout wondered whether he misses hand-tuning easing curves, and a few noted agents still skip reduced-motion handling.
  3. Emil Kowalski@emilkowalski

Migrated Linear from Radix to Base UI, took just over a milion tokens.

Design & CraftAgents & AIReports migrating Linear from Radix to Base UI using about a million tokens.
What people said backReplies split between "a million tokens is nothing" and probing questions about verification: did keyboard nav, focus return, and animation states actually survive? Several asked simply why, and one noted the human version costs a quarter and a Slack channel nobody enjoys.
  4. Emiel Janson@emieljanson

Hey @johnternus I think it’s time for Apple to have quality wednesdays. t.co/C0KuEErGhu t.co/O1qVzcOHWf

Apple please I am also begging you https://t.co/45XEUPHbjD https://t.co/gc0pueKFRB
Company & TeamSuggests Apple adopt Linear-style quality Wednesdays to fix software polish.
What people said backReplies split into fellow sufferers ("search that can't find is just.. yeah") and skeptics insisting their own machines are fine, plus a running joke that the index is simply still building after a decade.

    ORBIT (BY LINEAR) 09 DEC 2026 SF/CA t.co/ZuhzWvFgTB

Company & TeamLaunchesAnnounces Orbit, Linear's conference in San Francisco on December 9.
What people said backTeammates piled on with quote-posts and countdowns, while outsiders cheered, flagged that December 9 is their birthday (tickets?), and slipped in feature requests for renaming agent chats and customizing the agent handle.
  6. Linear@linear

New capabilities for Linear Loops: • Trigger from project, initiative, cycle, and issue changes • Edit documents automatically • Send tailored Slack updates : t.co/BCCFwu91iV

LaunchesHow People Use ItAnnounces new Loops triggers, automatic document edits and tailored Slack updates.
What people said backDesigners mostly ignored the feature to praise the animation and the motion work behind it. The substantive replies asked for an approval step before Loops edit shared specs, and whether edits can be traced back to the change that triggered them.
  7. mufeez@moofeez

really not liking the trend of code review becoming agent ping pong…

Agents & AIDislikes code review turning into back and forth ping pong between agents.
What people said backReplies asked what the alternative even is, argued agent-to-agent review belongs locally before the PR, and one popular quote-post predicted PRs won't exist next year. Another said reviewers shouldn't have to read code the author never wrote.
  8. Paul Macgregor@pdotcv

Print ad for @linear in the latest edition of Arena mag with @embeeargh.

Company & TeamDesign & CraftShares a Linear print ad running in the latest issue of Arena magazine.
What people said backNear-universal adoration from designers, with Volkswagen-era comparisons and a long, happy tangent about justified text and a hand-tuned Super Metroid guide. One quote-poster called it an ad fail for never saying what the product does.
  9. Karri Saarinen@karrisaarinen

    Preparing for tomorrow

LaunchesCompany & TeamTeases something Linear is preparing to show tomorrow.
What people said backReplies were almost entirely WoW nostalgia: faction interrogations, guild invite requests, Alliance starting-zone music appreciation, and one person noting that a CEO downloading 64.8 GB at 2am is funnier than any product launch. One lone "rip linear."
  10. Linear@linear

LaunchesAnnounces Linear Diffs coming to mobile with early access signup.
What people said backMostly the Linear team quote-posting each other, plus genuinely enthusiastic Japanese posts about reviewing diffs during a commute. One reader flagged the easy-to-miss desktop prerequisite; another wondered how the app handles being interrupted mid-review.
  11. Linear@linear

New: You can now drop .md and .txt files into Linear as content instead of attachments.

LaunchesAnnounces that .md and .txt files can be dropped into Linear as content.
What people said backBroadly grateful, with a few people surprised it hadn't worked before. Commenters liked that markdown becomes agent-readable context, appreciated the "keep as attachment" escape hatch, and asked what happens to relative image paths on import.

What people said back@brian_lovin deadpanned a spec for a notes app with API, CLI, MCP, structured metadata, collections and version history, i.e. describing Notion. Others pitched their own weekend projects and Mac-app workarounds.
