The day had one event and a lot of witnesses. @linear posted a poster: ORBIT (BY LINEAR), 09 DEC 2026, SF/CA. That's it. No agenda, no speaker list, just a date, a city, and some very nice worn-paper texture that designers immediately wanted to talk about.

Then the team quote-posted it, roughly all at once. @karrisaarinen called it the first conf and appended an increasingly recursive "Linear by Linear Orbit Inc." bit. @artman framed it as a teaser. @cjc gave it the actual pitch: one day, the future of building software. @pdotcv was "working on something" (he had also posted stickers earlier in the morning), and @conormuirhead credited him and a colleague for the branding. @julianlehr counted down: T-85. @Griveau posted "our first conf," having first posted it with a typo that produced a rather different conference.

The best in-house reaction was @mingjie, who noticed the site is light mode and expressed the appropriate amount of institutional alarm. One reply asked for a free ticket on the grounds that December 9 is their birthday, which is a strong opening offer.

Notable anecdotes

Separately, and with far more likes than the conference, @emilkowalski described doing essentially all of his animation and interaction work without touching code: prototype variants, an animate skill for easing and timing, then a prep-for-prod skill that runs performance, accessibility and mobile checks. Not a Linear feature announcement, but a fairly vivid picture of how one person inside Linear now builds things.

On the outside, @danlucraft spent a weekend comparing cloud coding agents and reported that handoff from Linear into Cursor "works really nicely," while Codex was, in his telling, painful enough to abandon before setup finished. Relatedly, @Jchammond_ wished the Codex app had a task board tab that synced with Linear or Jira so you could start a chat straight from a ticket, which is a request that keeps arriving from every direction.

Elsewhere, @SidharthVijay_ ran the eternal poll (one productivity tool forever: Notion, Linear, Raycast, or Obsidian), @MansiCodez listed Linear among the apps proving React isn't just for todo apps, and @kuberdenis shipped Linear as one of several token-based connectors in an app update. @dreambase_jc had a nice first trip to San Francisco that included an evening hosted alongside Linear, which is convenient timing given where everyone is apparently going in December.
